Wii U Surround Sound Guide.

* The Wii U only supports LPCM 1.0, 2.0 and 5.1
* The Wii U does not support any licensed surround formats: DPII, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS or DTS-HD Master Audio etc.
* The Wii U does not have an optical out port.
* Optical out from your TV/Monitor into your receiver/HTiB will not produce 5.1
* For Wii U use, only one AV port on the back of the Wii U is active. If you output HDMI to your TV, the AV Multi Out analogue output will be disabled.
* For Wii Mode use, it does output through both in Wii mode though, so you can have HMDI video and analogue audio.
* It is LPCM 5.1 via HDMI to a supporting receiver or nothing.

There is only one method available to get 5.1 surround from a WiiU:

Connect your WiiU via HDMI to an AV Receiver or HTiB that supports LPCM. Then connect AVR/HTiB to TV/Monitor with HDMI.

FAQ

Can I hook my Wii U up to my HTiB to get surround?
Maybe. If you have an HDMI input on the back of your HTiB, you should be OK. If you just have optical or analogue inputs, then no, you'll just get plain stereo.

I have an older AV Receiver or HTiB that doesn't have HDMI. I can still get surround, yeah?
No. See above. If your receiver doesn't support HDMI and LCPM, you won't get surround.

What if I use the optical output from my TV and hook that into my receiver/HTiB. I'll get surround then?
No. You will just get plain stereo.

What if I get an HDMI to optical spliiter? That will work?
No. Optical will never produce surround, as optical doesn't have the bandwidth to carry LPCM 5.1 audio.

Dude, seriously. It's not going to work.

So how do I get surround then?
Join the 21st century and buy a modern AV Receiver (sorry).

What the hell is LPCM anyway?
LPCM is a lossless, uncompressed audio format. It is unrelated to DD, DTS etc, and requires the large bandwidth of HDMI to send the 5.1 audio stream to a receiver. Optical doesn't have the bandwidth to carry LPCM 5.1.

What about in Wii Mode? Does DPII still work?
Only on a per-game basis.

I guess I'll just use my surround headphones then.

Come prevedevo il 99 % di questo forum e del mondo conosciuto , me compreso, si godrà un futuristico audio stereo  (L'aternativa sarebbe comprare un nuovo ampli Hdmi .... Sti Cazzi mi basta lo  stereo Fake surround)

Per adesso l'unico porting/multi che prendo è CoD perchè supporta (pare discretamente) il controllo con wiimote+nunchuck.

Pertanto é l'unico che non vorrò mai vedere

Con l'audio sono a posto, lpcm 5.1 via HDMI al Denon AVR 3808 e HDMI da questo alla TV.

Ls stessa situazione del resto che c'é con Ps3.

Nei giochi se non sbaglio visualizzo "MULTI CH IN" sul display del Denon, nei film se imposto bitstream vedró Dolby Digital o DTS, se voglio sentire le tracce HD (Dolby True HD, DTS HD oppure LPCM) seleziono Pcm lineare, mi pare che le nuove Ps3 permettano di inviare i nuovi formati in bitstresm facendoli decodificare dai processori dei sintoamplificatori ( e magari..io non l'ho mai potuto usare!!!)

Ovviamente beneficerai del multiaudio (Non ho idea di come lo sfrutteranno nei giochi, ma tu lo capirai, dovresti vedere il numero dei canali audio veicolati dal tuo Ampli)

Io comunque posso finalmente ufficializzare che sfanculizzo (ahimè ) le bocce della Falchi da Euronics il 29 e prendo invece la console il day-one al MW: putacaso ieri mi è arrivato il loro consueto, periodico carnet di buoni promo, e dentro tra gli altri ce n'era uno per lo sconto 10% su un qualsiasi articolo a mia scelta.
